Apply to the Graduate Program

Apply to the physics graduate program

Graduate applications proceed through the Graduate Division of UC Merced. Information on application requirements can be found at the Graduate Admissions website.

We invite applications from students with a strong background in physics or closely related disciplines. Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact individual faculty members to discuss their research interests.
The application deadline is Jan.15. Applications will still be considered after the deadline, but may be given a lower priority. A limited number of application fee waivers are available to qualified applicants. Please contact the admissions chair for additional information.

Financial Support

Newly admitted students will normally be supported as graduate teaching assistants (TAs) during their first two semesters in residence. After that, students will be supported as either TAsor graduate student researchers (GSRs) depending on availability of TAships and the research advisor’s funding situation.

Highly competitive applicants will be considered for the Chancellor's Fellowship, which provides a $4,000 grant on top of the TA or GSR salary for up to four years.
