Research and Internship Opportunities

Research Opportunities at UCM

Undergraduate students are encouraged to conduct research in collaboration with physics faculty either during the academic year (Phys 095/195) or as paid summer research assistants. We encourage interested students to explore faculty websites and contact individual faculty members about potential research opportunities.

In addition, a current listing of available Phys 195 and summer research projects is included here:

Additional resources on campus include the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC), which is a great source of information and runs the UCM Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI).

Research internships are also available through campus research centers, including the Center for Cellular and Biomolecular Machines (CCBM)

External Research Opportunities

There are many paid summer research and internship opportunities outside of UCM.

Undergraduate research, internship and job opportunities will be posted here regularly.

Fall 2021:
A new research opportunity in Nuclear Physics is now available to UC Merced undergraduate students!  Several UC Merced students will work with top nuclear physics researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab via a hybrid remote/in-person training program.  The program will begin Spring 2022, with students spending the summer of 2022 doing research at the lab in Berkeley.  A stipend will be provided.  Applications will be accepted toward the end of the Fall 2021 semester.  Contact Prof. Kevin Mitchell if interested (  This program is funded by a grant from the DOE.
