About SPS

The University of California, Merced Chapter of the Society of Physics Students aims to provide students with the resources necessary to make educated and informed career decisions.

Our organization aims to uphold the ideals established by the national branch of the Society of Physics Students as well as those implemented by the University of California, Merced.

Through our efforts, we hope to increase awareness of the importance of physics education in our local and school communities, encourage students to pursue their career goals, provide students with hands on experience, and provide an avenue where students can discuss their passion - Physics.

Recent Outreach Events

In Spring 2018, SPS members joined other groups affiliated with UC Merced’s YES Academy for an outreach event at Walnut Grove Elementary School. The YES Academy allows UC Merced students in STEM fields, particularly organizations affiliated with STEM, to provide an enriching and stimulating experience for K-8 students in the hopes of fostering the next generations of scientists and engineers. SPS, along with Society of Women Engineers, Ingenieros Unidos, and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics all came to volunteer for this event. After arriving at the school, we mixed and divided into small groups to show the students how drones work.
