Appreciation for Physics Postdocs

September 20, 2023

During National Postdoc Appreciation Week we'd like to recognize the important contributions of our physics postdoctoral scholars. Here are some recent highlights from each of them:

Dr. Bhavya Mishra (advisor: Gopinathan)

  • Published a paper on HIV viral assembly in Biophysical Journal in August 2023.

  • Co-led summer outreach activity on Coronaviruses for K-12 students.

Dr. Monika Sanoria (advisor: Gopinathan)

  • Published a paper on percolation in active fluids in Phys Rev E in September 2022 (and another on arXiv in July 2023).

  • Co-taught CCBM summer module on computation and modeling for graduate students.

Dr. Ryan Keeley (advisor: Nierenberg)

  • Published a paper “Pushing the limits of detectability: mixed dark matter from strong gravitational lenses” in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (publication date October 2023).

  • Presented his research at multiple international conferences including “Cosmo23" in Madrid in September and “Self-Interacting Dark Matter: Models, Simulations and Signals” in Italy in July.

Dr. Tobias Zier (advisor: Strubbe)

  • Presented the UC Merced physics colloquium “Ultrafast light and Matter: The two get along!” in March 2023.

  • Submitted a paper “Pausing ultrafast melting by multiple femtosecond-laser pulses” to Physical Review Letters in June 2023.

Dr. Rafael Del Grande (advisor: Strubbe)

  • Awarded a Frontera Pathways allocation from the Texas Advanced Computing Center entitled “Ab initio excited state forces from GW/BSE and DFPT calculations: applications to perovskites and 2D materials” in August 2023.

  • Received a “People’s Choice” prize for his poster “Excited-state force calculations from GW/BSE and DFPT: development and application to organic metal halide perovskites,” at the 35th Workshop on Recent Developments in Electronic Structure Methods at UC Merced in June 2023.
