The Physics Department at UC Merced is thrilled to announce the return of our photo competition! We were impressed by last year's submissions, and we can't wait to see the submissions for the 3rd Annual Physics Photo Contest!
We welcome submissions of all types, including:
- Visualizations of data from experiments, simulations, or theory
- Photographs from physics events
- Photographs from experiments in progress
- Visualizations / representations of physics concepts
In general, we are looking for visually appealing images to advertise the department. Please don't submit research posters; in general we are looking for images with little or no text! (A short description will be displayed along with each image.)
The only rules are that:
- You are the primary author of the image (images from collaborations are welcome and encouraged)
- You are affiliated with the UC Merced Physics Department
- Please no AI generated images, unless the AI model was developed as part of your research
You need to submit your image by Sunday, May 3rd at midnight.
The winner of the competition will be chosen at the Physics End of the Year Event on May 15, 2026. Everyone who attends the event will be able to vote for their favorite images, which will be on display! We will choose 3 winners, who will each receive a $75 gift card.
The winning images will also be printed as large posters, and placed on permanent display in the department! Non-winning images will also be used to promote the department on social media.
